Hello Gregory,

Yeah, while I was testing JMS 2.0 I also thought it seemed very close to Sprint Framework's JMSTemplate. I guess that even before JMS 2.0 people from Java EE world would do the same using @Produces methods that take care of all the underlying mess. Nevertheless, it's good to have such features in the specification itself.

Thanks for your comment!

Piotr

Thanks.
It is close to Spring JmsTemplate features
- Reduces boilerplate code
- Manages resources transparently
- Handles exception properly
- Converts checked exceptions to runtime equivalents
- Provides convenience methods such as the convertAndSend() method that take a destination (a queue here) and a payload object as message.

Amazing stuff dude, this is exactly what I needed to find out.

There are a handful of other issues I got concerning this, but I guess
I can not be greedy. One answer at a time. Back to the web
to find out what I need! Once again.... excellent post, nicely written!

I passed the examine at the end of January with a score 96, but did not receive anything, neither soft nor hard copy of the certificate since then. It seems I have to make a specific request to get one. It is very bad since this is a paid service.

Concerning the test itself, I think strictly stick with the official guide is sufficient. The most quoted materials, including Jeanne’s core spring 3 certification experiences and the two paid Skill Guru's mock examines, are overdo. The third free mock test in Skill Guru is actually closer to the real test, although the English of the question is not perfect.

Thanks for kind words Dmitri!

Well, I think that the EJB specs hardly dictates that every remote interface used must obey to pass-by-value semantics. I agree with you - app server is able to make some kind of optimization if it recognizes it is within the same JVM - e.g. no marshalling and umarshalling may occur but the whole pass-by-value must be obeyed. I think it helps if you think about clustered environment. Sometimes you hit the remote object within the same node in the cluster and sometimes you don't. You don't have to control it (and most probably you shouldn't). Now if the AS will optimize the access sometimes it would act like pass-by-value and sometimes like pass-by-reference which might blow in a developer's face in less expected time.

AFAIR I was testing it on JBoss AS 7.1.1 or EAP 6.1 - don't remember it exactly right now, sorry.

Cheers!

Interesting topic, thank you! I'm very surprised by the results of TxMergeRemote self-injection.

All application servers I know do optimize the @Remote communication, if the target SLSB is in the same JVM with the Caller. Hence I would expect the same call-by-reference issue.

What was your test environment for this case?
